When to Skip Masking Tape
Transcript:
Applying masking tape before painting . . . Nobody likes it . . . so let's talk about some times when you might be able to skip it. I'm Dan Hansen and this is a minute at RepcoLite Paints sponsored by Benjamin Moore.
First off, your skill level may be good enough that you can skip taping. A lot of professional painters, for example, don't use tons of tape. They get away with that because they've spent years painting and they can cut in a straight line without tape. IF your skills are sufficient--AND if that's true of the people you're working with--you may be able to skip taping.
Another place you can skip masking tape is on the ceiling when you're painting the line where the walls meet the ceiling. Ceilings, especially textured ones, can be almost impossible to tape cleanly.
Instead, practice a good free hand cutting in technique and you'll be able to get good results. People don't usually scrutinize that cut-in line--a tiny wave in your line probably won't be noticeable from below. Next time we'll talk about some places where taping is beneficial! I'm Dan Hansen and that's a Minute at RepcoLite.
