Breaking Out of Ruts, Part 3
Transcript:
I'm in a rut. Same colors in my home as in my last home, same 10 or so meals on rotation, same vacation spot every year, same, same, same. Why no new ideas? . I'm Dan Hansen and this is a Minute at RepcoLite Paints sponsored by Benjamin Moore.
There are a lot of reasons, but probably the biggest one for me is that the same old thing is comfortable--no surprises. But . . . nothing new either. And that's where that a phrase Benjamin Moore used in their marketing for this years Color of the Year hit me: they said: use this color to make new things for yourself and find new ideas. How does it do that?
In the largest sense, by encouraging you to use a color you've probably never thought about before. But there's a deeper point. Finding something new means entertaining something outside of our comfort zone--whether it's new foods, new vacation spots, new friends . . . anything. We don't find new ideas and new experiences all safely confined in the circle in which we feel comfortable and happy. It's outside that circle where the new stuff waits. I'm Dan Hansen and that's a Minute at RepcoLite.
