The People Who Know: The Mirror, Part 1

We’re talking about mistakes people make when decorating or designing their spaces. Let’s talk about one of the most common ones. I’m Dan Hansen and this is a minute at RepcoLite.
This next mistake will take me a bit to get through–partly because most everyone I know is doing it. But mostly because realizing the mistake has really changed how I look at doing things in my house.
It all started in a very unlikely place: I ran into 100 year old fashion icon Iris Apfel on the internet. Iris is extremely over the top when it comes to fashion and I typically would have had zero interest. But, we were focusing on her for a presentation RepcoLite was giving and so, I had to jump in and learn about her. In the midst of that, I watched a lot of videos and listened to a lot of soundbites from Iris. In one of my favorites, Iris explains that the biggest mistake people make when it comes to fashion is to look in the mirror and see someone else. Her point is that we shouldn’t build a wardrobe around someone else’s tastes. We need to see US in the mirror. Well, the same thing is true in our homes. We’ll go deeper next time.
