The Art of Asking for Advice: Subjective or Objective?

Asking for advice can be a double-edged sword! But there are things you can do to make sure it’s as positive a process as possible. I’m Dan Hansen and this is a Minute at RepcoLite.
Alright, yesterday we said that the first thing to do is make sure it’s really advice you’re after and not just affirmation. The next thing you need to do is figure out if you're asking for a subjective or objective answer.
For example, if I’m asking if I have the right answers to some addition problems, it’s objective. However, if I’m asking if red is a good color or if these colors look good together, those answers are subjective and based on personal opinion. Some people like certain color combinations and hate others. I have a friend who hates green. It doesn't matter what shade or tone of green and it doesn't matter what you pair it with. If green is in use as a paint color, he inwardly recoils.
So, remember that when you ask your question! If there isn't a definitive "yes" or "no," keep that in mind. Don't abandon what you like only because someone else--even someone you respect--doesn't like it. There isn't a "right answer" with subjective questions.
