Cleaning Up Paint Spills in Carpet, Part 3

Transcript:

Spilling paint on carpet can be heartbreaking. But it doesn't need to be. I'm Dan Hansen and this is a minute at RepcoLite Paints sponsored by Benjamin Moore.

The key to removing a spill is to act fast. If the waterbased paint in your carpet dries, it's much tougher to remove. So have a plan and get moving right away. Here are the steps I've found work best.

First, using some putty knives or any flat, stiff piece of cardboard or plastic, carefully squeegee off as much of the excess paint from the surface of the fibers as you can.

Once you've done that, introduce some clean water and work it through the spill gently with your fingers. Then--and this is your super weapon against spills--go over the spot carefully with a wet/dry vac. You will have to repeat this procedure several times, but each time, you'll find less and less paint in the fibers.

When you've removed all that you can, carefully blot the area with a dry towel and then run a dehumidifier if necessary to remove excess moisture from the carpet and pad. We'll wrap this up with some final thoughts next time. I'm Dan Hansen and that's a Minute at RepcoLite.
