When it comes to paint colors, light—especially natural light—plays a bigger role than most people realize. It can make the same color look warm and soft in one room, and cold and lifeless in another.
But here’s what’s even trickier: the direction a room faces—the way it catches sunlight throughout the day—changes everything again. South-facing rooms glow. East-facing rooms shift as the day moves on. And north-facing rooms? They’re a whole different animal.
North-facing spaces get a steady, cool light that never really changes much during the day. It’s calm and consistent—but it can also make your colors feel flat or even chilly.
That doesn’t mean you’re stuck with cold, gray walls. You just need to understand what’s happening—and how to work with it instead of against it.
