The People Who Know
Transcript:
There are people in this world who just seem to know how to do stuff. They rebuild engines, they rewire their homes on the weekends, they know how to fold fitted sheets. How do they just KNOW how do all these things? I’m Dan Hansen and this is a Minute at RepcoLite.
They seem SO smart and I feel SO dumb. And then something hit me the other day. I had car problems. I found the solution online, watched a couple videos and fixed it myself for the price of parts. I was happy it was working, but still felt dumb–I didn’t innately KNOW how to do the work. I had to research and struggle. But as I was talking about it later, one of the responses I got was this: “How do people like you just know how to do things?”
It was eye opening. Because while I can learn I certainly don’t start with a deep well of knowledge. Maybe these other people are the same way: maybe this knowledge isn’t as inborn as I’d always imagined. Maybe it’s just a matter of getting the right information, the right help. Maybe I’m not as hopeless as I’d thought. Next time, we’ll talk about how that relates to paint. I’m Dan Hansen and that’s a Minute at RepcoLite.
