Let’s talk about painting your kitchen cabinets. And to start, let’s go to Italy. I’m Dan Hansen and this is a minute at RepcoLite sponsored by Benjamin Moore.
The year is 1173 and the Tower of Pisa is being constructed. Construction continues until 1178 when the Tower begins to lean. Turns out they built on a thinner than usual foundation that was set in a weaker than normal substrate.
As they scratched their heads about it, numerous wars began and with only 3 levels constructed, everything comes to a halt for almost 100 years. Then, in 1272 it all starts up again and engineers are brought in to address the lean. Their solution is to build the new floors with one side lower than the other . . . to kind of swing it back straight.
Many years later, in the 1990’s another attempt was made to bolster the foundation and, in the end, the tilt was reduced from 5.5 degrees to 3.9.
The lesson? The foundation was bad and the subsequent results could never be completely corrected. And people found themselves doing sometimes ridiculous things–like building floors with one side lower than the other–in order to fix it. How does that relate to kitchen cabinets?
