How's this for a ridiculously bold claim? Home improvement projects actually helped win the Revolutionary War. I'm Dan Hansen and this is a minute at RepcoLite Paints sponsored by Benjamin Moore.
Here's the scoop: During the Revolutionary War, George Washington sent a number of letters back from the war front to his home at Mount Vernon. And amongst all the normal letter stuff, there are also a lot of instructions for home projects that Washington was managing from a distance.
It's a bit of a puzzle for historians. He's commanding the Continental Army and he's experiencing nothing but trouble and failure. His life's in danger, the future of the nation's uncertain and what's he doing at night? He's writing letters about the colors of the draperies. Or the work he wants done on the chimneys. It's a little odd and historians have wondered, what's going on here: how can curtain colors issues be filling his mind at this point in his life?
